In the summer of 2022, I took a photograph from my office window.
A few months later, I photographed the same view again. Autumn had arrived, and everything looked different. The trees had changed colour, the light had softened, and the atmosphere had shifted.
Then came December.
Same window. Same landscape. Completely different view.

At the time, I was simply fascinated by how much one place could change within a few months. Today, those photographs mean something much deeper to me.
They remind me of life.
Summer has faded, and autumn now lingers in the cooler air and changing light. Watching one season quietly give way to another has made me reflect on the seasons of my own life. Since 2022, each year has brought significant milestones. Some have been beautiful, while others have been difficult. There have been moments that stretched me, changed me and demanded a strength I did not know I possessed.
Yet, through every season, I am still here, growing, healing and grateful for what remains.
We associate spring with new beginnings. Flowers bloom, colour returns and the world seems to come alive again.
But spring also brings rain.
Summer represents sunshine, holidays, beaches and long, joyful days. Yet it can also bring unbearable heat. The same sun that brings pleasure to one person can bring discomfort to another.
Autumn is beautiful in a different way. The leaves turn shades of gold, red and rust. The air becomes cooler, and everything seems to slow down. But autumn is also a season of release. The trees must let go of what they once carried.
Then comes winter.
Snow can make the world look magical, but winter also brings shorter days, bitter cold and long periods of darkness.
No season is entirely beautiful, and no season is entirely difficult.
Every season carries both a gift and a demand.
Perhaps life is the same.
When something painful happens, it is easy to feel as though everything is going wrong.
One setback can make us question our entire journey. One disappointment can make us forget how far we have already travelled. We become so focused on what has changed that we overlook what remains.
But the view from my office window reminds me that change does not always mean that something has been lost.
The landscape was still there beneath the fallen leaves, grey skies and winter frost. It had not disappeared. It had simply entered another season.
In the same way, we do not lose our value because life looks different from what we expected.
A difficult season does not erase our purpose. Rest does not make us unproductive. A period of waiting does not mean that nothing is happening. Letting go does not always mean we have failed.
Sometimes, it simply means we are making room for what comes next.
The trees do not fight to keep every leaf. They release what has completed its purpose and stand bare for a while, trusting a process they cannot control.
There is wisdom in that.
…
Some Lessons Must Be Lived
There are lessons we hear many times but only truly understand when life requires us to live them.
Resilience is easy to admire until you are the one being asked to remain standing.
Patience sounds beautiful until life makes you wait.
Faith feels comforting until you must keep believing without knowing what comes next.
Courage seems admirable until moving forward becomes your only choice.
Some of these are lessons and values I first encountered through my grandmother. But with every changing season, I am learning to understand and live them for myself.
Perhaps this is how wisdom is passed on, not only through the words we remember, but through the choices we make when life tests what we believe.
…
What I Am Choosing
I cannot control every season that enters my life, but I can decide how I will meet it.
I am choosing to focus on what remains possible.
I am choosing myself.
I am choosing gratitude. Not because everything has been easy, but because difficulty has not taken everything from me.
I am choosing the growth that can emerge from every season, including those I would never have selected for myself.
I am choosing to believe that change is not always an ending. Sometimes, it is preparation.
I am choosing to add value to my own life and to the lives of others, regardless of what the present landscape looks like.
Most importantly, I am choosing not to judge my entire life by one difficult chapter.
If you are currently living through a difficult season, please remember: the view may have changed, but your story has not ended.
This season may be uncomfortable. It may be painful. It may be taking longer than you expected.
But it is still a season.
The rain will not fall forever.
The leaves will not remain on the ground forever.
The darkness will not last forever.
Another season will come.
Until then, take whatever this season has come to teach you. Give yourself permission to rest, heal, change, release and grow.
As for me, I am learning to embrace the season I am in, remain grateful for the seasons I have survived and look forward with hope to those still ahead.
The view is changing again.
And this time, so am I.
